The design is hand-dyed using a twisting technique. The chevron pattern resembles the traditional Ikat weaving of Indonesia and India.
The silk is first pre-dyed in solid colour. Then the scarf is accordion folded lengthways. Both ends are firmly held while the folds are twisted to resemble rope.
The dyes are then painted onto the fabric in stripes of different colours. Once dried, the fabric is ironed flat to reveal the pattern. The fabric is steamed for 3 hours to enhance the colour and make the piece colourfast.
